My Teaching Philosophy
One thing is for certain-playing drums is all about fun with rhythm and discovering what you can do when your mind and body work together to create music. Drums and percussion are fun from the start, but learning how to coordinate body movements with one's musical vision takes time and repetition. Let me help you find the path of least resistance and maximum fun. My years of experience as both a student of percussion and as a teacher have given me the insight to help you improve regardless of your playing background. Whether you've got the bug to learn the basics or expand your knowledge and ability, I will create a custom lesson plan to fit your needs and I always move at the student's pace. As a student, you will gain the mental and physical capacities for playing the music you love. Throughout your studieswe will learn about notation, song structure, and understanding the rhythm of any style of music you like. I will help you to identify and understand the building blocks of drumming such as coordination, counting time, playing technique and improvisation. My approach is based on the belief that practice should be fun and challenging, in that order! My teaching methods includewritten exercises and articles, video clips, and fun practice sessions using my loudspeaker system to play along with great music. I have tons of percussion and I love to share music and instruments from different cultures. We can even jam as a duo in the studio with me on bass or guitar - anything goes! My main goal is to help you attain your musical goals whatever they may be.
